Philosophy
Several theories about intelligence emerged in the twentieth century and with them
debate about the nature of intelligence and whether it is determined by hereditary
factors, the environment, or both.
Part of the problem regarding intelligence stems from the fact that nobody has adequately
defined what intelligence really means.
Since about 1970, psychologists have expanded the notion of what constitutes intelligence.
Again, when all these aspects of intelligence are viewed together, the importance of how
people use their intelligence becomes more important than the question of "how much"
intelligence a person has.
Digital Systems
Applications of digital knowledge varies in complexity and significance from simple,
non-critical, everyday implementations like hand held calculators to enormously
complicated, life sustaining, custom systems like those employed by NASA to control
space missions. It is easy to understand that these two systems cannot be switched
around; common sense prohibits such a notion.
When many applications are available
for performing the task at hand however, the choice becomes much more complicated.
More complex tasks inevitably call for more complex solutions and although the number
of solutions to evaluate is often inversely proportional to the complexity of the
task at hand the "best match" for a complicated task becomes without doubt much less
obvious.
